
Radio Ngāti Porou (RNP) is the voice of Ngāti Porou,dedicated to uplifting, preserving, and celebrating our unique mita, stories,and identity. Established in 1987, RNP was born from the vision of our iwileaders and language champions who recognised the urgent need to protect andrevitalise te reo ake o Ngāti Porou. From humble beginnings, broadcasting froma small station in Ruatoria, RNP has grown into a leading Māori radio station,reaching whānau across Te Tairāwhiti, Aotearoa, and the world.Operating under the Radio Ngāti Porou Charitable Trust, inpartnership with Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou, our station is committed todelivering high-quality, reo-rich content that reflects who we are as NgātiPorou. Our mission is to increase the presence and use of our mita, ensuringour language and tikanga thrive across generations.RNP provides a diverse and engaging schedule,featuring local news, current affairs, iwi and community kōrero, sports, and anextensive collection of waiata Māori. With a minimum of six hours of NgātiPorou reo content daily, we actively support the revitalisation andnormalisation of our mita. We also showcase the voices of our pakeke,rangatahi, and reo champions, sharing their kōrero and insights to inspirewhānau to speak, learn, and live in te reo.
